Guys, it has been way too long. A month to be exact.
You’d think I’d be publishing blogs left and right since it’s summer and a busy schedule is non-existent in my world during this time, but the warm weather has had the opposite effect on me. Thank you all so much for being patient with me. It means a lot.
Anyways, a while back, my gorgeous friend Katherine asked if I could blog about a simple skin care routine before any makeup application. Taking care of your skin after applying makeup is highly stressed, but what about before?
For me, Welcome Weekend is just around the corner. This great holiday is a chance for me to catch up with friends through Starbucks dates, trips to the cafeteria and, of course, parties. I love parties, especially since it’s a chance for me to go bold when it comes to my makeup. I love layering smokey brown shadows on my eyelids and strategically placing bronzer, blush and highlighter on my face before a night out with friends. But what about my skin? Without proper care, makeup can clog pores and lead to a bad breakout, and no one wants a breakout during their first week on campus.
It’s important to note that taking care of your skin before applying makeup is just as crucial after everything’s all said and done.
Today, I want to shine a light on how you can prepare your skin for makeup by following my simple and oh-so-easy three-step skin care routine that’ll create a flawless blank canvas before you apply any makeup to your face.
Thank you all for reading and enjoy 🙂
My Simple 3-Step Skin Care Routine Before Applying Makeup
1. Exfoliate. I started exfoliating my skin about five months ago, so I understand this step may be a bit foreign to some (including me). However, it’s easy enough to understand. Essentially, exfoliating facial scrubs rid your skin of any dead skin cells, revealing a new, fresh base. I like to exfoliate once a week, about every Thursday (the day before my weekend starts). I’ve fallen in love with St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub. This product is the perfect natural exfoliator that leaves my skin feeling like a baby’s butt after every use.
2. Moisturize. To give my skin some hydration after exfoliating, I like to apply moisturizer to my face. Dry skin will hinder any chance at a flawless makeup application, so moisturizing is a necessary step. Because I have such oily skin, I like to use Clean and Clear Dual Action Moisturizer since it’s free from any oils that may clog my pores and lead to acne.
3. Prime. Priming takes on two different roles. First, this step ensures your makeup will stay in put all day and night. Second, primer can minimize the look of pores, giving your skin a visibly smoother surface. Before I apply any makeup, I like to take a small dime-sized amount of Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional Face Primer and apply this product to my face. I like to focus on my T-zone – forehead, nose and chin – and my cheeks whenever I use primer because that’s where your pores are the most visible.
After you’re done priming your face, let the magic begin 🙂
