Hello, beautiful. Welcome to Prime and Paint, a beauty blog written for makeup junkies by a fellow makeup junkie.
First and foremost, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Kara, and I’m currently a sophomore at Central Michigan University. I’m studying integrative public relations and journalism, but that’s only half of who I am.
Flashback to the months leading up to my senior year of high school. I, like pretty much everyone else, felt completely overwhelmed when my parents started to ask me what I wanted to do after high school. I was terrified of majoring in a field that I had no interest in.
All I knew was that I loved two very different passions: beauty and writing.
I’ve always been a huge bookworm and daydreamer. Over the years, I learned to put two and two together, and I started writing fiction in my free time. The thought of majoring in English or creative writing was taken into consideration since I dreamed of becoming an author. But the make-or-break life of an author scared me.
My interest in hair and makeup started after watching a couple beauty videos on YouTube. If you’ve ever sat down and told yourself you’ll watch one quick makeup tutorial on YouTube, you can totally guess what happened next in this little story. I was hooked instantly. After teaching myself how to apply makeup, I began to consider cosmetology school. However, that path didn’t seem right either.
Amidst my struggles to find a suitable path, my supportive and loving parents decided to help. They printed off a list of the top one hundred careers in Michigan and told me to circle the ones that interested me. After thinking carefully about each job on that list, most of the careers that I circled were communications-based with the occasional cosmetology career sprinkled throughout. I loved the idea of doing hair and makeup, but I couldn’t ignore the fact that writing played a huge part of my life. I couldn’t drop it.
That’s when I combined two of my passions and realized that I could write for cosmetics companies. I started searching for careers based on publicity and writing, and that’s how I discovered public relations.
My dream is to work for a cosmetics company as a public relations executive and pursue my goal of becoming an author, but in order to do so, I need to gain experience.
I created my beauty blog, Prime and Paint, with the intent of gaining writing experience, which will help improve my writing skills for my career and my dream. I’m well aware that blogging, public relations and fiction writing are completely different areas, but in the end, any type of writing will get my creative juices flowing.
Now, I’m going to answer the question some of you may be wondering: what’s up with your blog name?
Well, after thinking long and hard of a catchy, yet clever blog name, Prime and Paint came to mind. Here’s why:
Before anyone can create a masterpiece, whether it be a painting, book, makeup look, etc., one must prep, or prime, before getting down the business. Without priming, the concept or idea you’re trying to convey through your work will not stick unless you’re proactive. Priming will allow your work to live up to it’s full potential.
Once you prime, then you can paint. If you ask me, painting is always the fun part because it gives you the chance to unleash your inner self. The beauty about life is that you are the artist, and you hold the brush. It’s your life, and you are entitled to paint whatever you want to paint. The world is your canvas. There is no limit to your creativity.
So, this is my blog. I hope you stick around for the journey because it’s going to be one heck of a ride.
